F.A.Q.

Law can seem complex and confusing, but for us, they are everyday matters. To help you get started, we’ve compiled a list of questions we receive.

ACCIDENTS & PERSONAL INJURY QUESTIONS

Can I handle accident/insurance issues myself?

Many basic non-injury accidents can be handled directly with insurance; however, if you feel like you aren’t getting the answers you need or the respect you deserve, it’s time to call us! We’re here to help navigate the process with the best possible outcome… and we actually take over direct contact with insurance companies so you don’t have to! We want you to focus on recovery.

How much does Powers legal services cost?

On accident and personal injury cases, our fees are based on a percentage of compensation received. No matter what, we will NEVER take more money than you receive in compensation. We also don’t factor in compensation you receive for basic property damage. We want you to get your car repaired or replaced so you can get back on the road.

PROBATE QUESTIONS

Do I need a Will?

If you own real estate or your total assets are worth more than $50,000, then YES, you need a Will. This important document helps to secure the transfer of your assets and the financial security of your family after your death.

Can I write my own Will?

You can find a wide variety of templates online, but we have almost NEVER seen one that was correctly executed. “DIY” Wills can cause your beneficiaries major delays and costly fees to work out after you are gone. We truly have yet to see a properly handled DIY Will that complies with state law.

Can you provide emergency offsite Will services?

Yes, we are happy to come to you. We have executed Wills in homes, hospitals, hospice, and other locations. (Additional fee required.)

Do I need a trust?

Some people prefer a trust to a Will. Both documents distribute your estate upon your death. In some cases, a trust is the better choice. We are happy to discuss all options with you.

What other kind of estate planning services do you provide?

We provide multiple services that can make handling your estate easier on your loved ones, including Power of Attorney, real property deeds to avoid probate, and advice on titling assets.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

Will I be working directly with Bruce?

YES! Unlike many other law firms, Bruce works directly on each and every case. Depending on the complexity of your needs, much of your work will also be handled by Bruce’s trusted, experienced staff.

What clients do you work with?

We’re proud to welcome everyone into the Powers Law Office! We’ve worked with people of many different cultures, backgrounds, beliefs, and lifestyles.

Do you provide bilingual services?

We have access to Spanish interpreter services, and may be able to accommodate other language needs as well. Please call in advance to help us schedule interpreter services.

What if I don’t really know what I need?

Don’t worry! Law can be complicated, and we don’t expect our clients to know exactly what they need. We’re here to talk you through all of your options with an obligation-free consultation.

What is it like to work with the Powers Law team?

Our offices aren’t intimidating, and we treat everyone with the respect and attention they deserve. Our team is highly knowledgeable, and what’s more, we’ve probably been in your shoes — we’ve had our share of family deaths, auto accidents, and injuries too. We’re here to help regular people find solutions to everyday legal problems.

What if I don’t want to sue someone?

Believe it or not, cases rarely progress to the point of a lawsuit. Lawsuits are expensive, time-consuming, and often a last resort. When liability in an injury case is clear, much of the time our work is more like a negotiation between other parties and insurance companies involved in order to get you the best-possible outcome.

What if you can’t help me with my problem?

We have several distinct specialties, and if we’re not equipped to help with your needs, we are happy to point you in the right direction. Bruce is respected in the industry and well-connected to many specialized colleagues.
